    Developer in Residence – Mobile Action Lab




    This fall, Youth Radio is launching Oakland’s first youth-driven Mobile Action Lab: 25 young people collaborating with pro app developers (could be you!) to create six online/mobile apps that serve real needs in youth communities. Youth Radio won a major global MacArthur Foundation competition to launch the Lab, announced this spring by US Chief Technology Officer Aneesh Chopra, as part of Obama’s National Lab Day.     What we need: 
A fantastic developer to run the Mobile Action Lab, with support from a Lab coordinator to help manage the day-to-day. You’ll collaborate directly with young people to create our apps and bring them to market. 

Requirements:

    • High energy level and top-notch problem-solving skills
    • Ability to learn new technologies fast

    • Experience building web-based interactive applications (HTML, Javascript, AJAX)
    
• Experience with scripting languages (any of the following Perl, Python, Ruby, PHP)
    
• Solid understanding of the SQL language 

    • Experience building iPhone apps (Android is a plus!)

    
Bonus:
    
• Experience in building applications for social media (utilizing FBML, Open Social, etc.) 

    • Experience implementing products using 3rd party APIs with minimal support
    
• Experience in analyzing open source solutions and implementing OSS in applications

    • Experience in building multi-user, high-availability web applications

    • A track record as the nation’s premier producer of youth-generated content for public media, with outlets including National Public Radio, The Huffington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, and iTunes.

    Compensation commensurate with experience—one-year position with room to grow and extend
